Sustainability work in concrete terms

For us, sustainability is a success factor. Our sustainability work is a clear part of our strategy to grow profitably for the benefit of employees, society, and customers.

We work both overall at the company level, but also within each employee’s area of responsibility so that they can contribute to our sustainability efforts.

Our customers demand sustainability from us and our business, and we in turn demand that our suppliers act in accordance with our sustainability requirements and ethical standards.

Together we are moving forward a little more, every day.

Environment

The environment can be affected in many different ways

By coordinating our deliveries and filling each delivery vehicle completely, we reduce the number of trips and thus the CO2 emissions from our deliveries.

Going from many deliveries per day, to one or a few, requires a little more work in terms of planning, but has contributed to a lower climate impact and a better working environment for the employees in the delivery department.

Working methods

Concrete sustainability work

Our ISO 14001 certification is based on our environmental management system, which helps us identify, manage, and reduce our environmental impact.

We have linked our environmental management system to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to the environment and sustainability.

One example of concrete sustainability work is our efforts to reduce the volumes of cooling water and waste oils. Here we have switched to modern oils and cooling emulsions that have a significantly longer shelf life and can be used longer without having to be replaced.

When we need to use chemicals, we make sure they are approved and supplied by highly credible suppliers. We help take care of the residues and ensure they are handled correctly.

We work with several key performance indicators to monitor our sustainability efforts. One important key figure is the scrap rate, which we have improved significantly, also contributing to a concrete reduction in energy consumption.

Global objectives

A better future for all with the UN Global Goals

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (2030 Agenda) consists of 17 goals aimed at eradicating poverty, reducing inequalities and combating climate change. Adopted by UN member states in 2015, the goals are an action plan for a more sustainable and equitable world by 2030.

Fårbo Manufacturing is actively working with an appropriate selection of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By focusing on selected goals, we are integrating sustainability into our business and contributing to positive change for both people and planet.

03.

Good health and well-being

With two shifts combined with opportunities for wellness and exercise, we care about our employees and their health and life balance, which contributes to happiness at work. We sponsor local sports to ensure we have a healthy and vibrant community around us. We ensure that all employees have access to relevant information related to the company and their role, and encourage ideas and suggestions for development in what we call smart efficiency. This means that we challenge each other to constantly become better and more efficient in everything we do. By using automation both in production and in administration and production support, we reduce both the physical and mental burden on our employees.
05.

Gender equality

We offer an inclusive workplace where gender equality is a prerequisite for a strong team spirit and the continued development of the company. We oppose all forms of violence, discrimination and harmful practices towards the individual, the company and society at large. We fully support the UN Goal 5 on political, economic and social equality between women and men and believe that this contributes to all dimensions of sustainable development.
07.

Sustainable energy for all

Access to sustainable, reliable and renewable energy and clean fuels is a prerequisite for running our business and maintaining jobs. We buy our company’s electricity from fossil-free electricity suppliers, which also increases the demand for renewable energy.

08.

Decent work and economic growth

Good working conditions promote sustainable economic growth for both Fårbo Manufacturing, our region, and Sweden as a whole. We have collective agreements and follow all laws and regulations to create a safe environment for our employees. Our Code of Conduct summarizes how we protect workers’ rights and also how we want to act to promote positive development. The Code is based on the 10 principles developed under the UN Global Compact. An important sub-target for us under Goal 8 is to promote youth employment, education and training through contacts with schools, and directly with young people.
09.

Sustainable industry, innovation and infrastructure

One of our core values, Smart Efficiency, aims, among other things, to achieve more efficient use of resources. Innovation and technological progress are key to finding sustainable solutions, including for Fårbo Manufacturing, both in terms of economic and environmental challenges. We continuously invest in business development and innovation to create favourable conditions for sustainable development.
12.

Sustainable consumption and production

Everyone with Fårbo Manufacturing share the understanding that sustainable production brings not only environmental benefits but also social and economic benefits such as increased competitiveness, growth in the region, increased employment, and improved health. We are economical with raw materials, materials and energy, where the life cycle perspective is essential at all stages. Our employees work to reduce waste and strive for more efficient use of resources in their daily work. Apart from the obvious environmental impact of large amounts of waste, there is a financial dimension that is important, such as ensuring a minimum of rejects and waste from our cutting operations.
13.

Fighting climate change

In order not to burden the climate, we work continuously to minimize as much as possible of the climate footprint we create. We work in an environmentally oriented way with both customers and suppliers. This includes reducing our carbon emissions through sustainable material choices and energy efficiency. For example, we have gone from consuming 13 cubic meters of oil per year to 0, by switching to geothermal heating. We are also planning to change the company’s vehicle fleet so that it becomes completely fossil-free.
